=== Node Connectivity === To establish a distributed Erlang system, nodes need to be connected to each other using a shared secret called a `cookie`. Nodes with the same cookie can securely communicate with each other, while those without the correct cookie are denied access. This mechanism ensures that only trusted nodes can participate in the distributed system. Nodes can be connected using the `:net_adm.connect_node/1` function, which takes the name of the remote node as an argument. Once connected, nodes can communicate using various communication primitives provided by the Erlang runtime.
